19 year old Blackburn Rovers academy graduate Dan Pike featured in the Premier League 2 fixture against Northwest rivals Liverpool. Rovers led twice but had to settle for a 2-2 draw.
Tuesday
Olly Lee’s Gillingham continued their late push for a League One play-off place. They secured an impressive 1-0 away win at second placed Peterborough United.
Wigan Athletic came away from Shrewsbury Town with a 2-1 victory. Callum Lang scored the winning goal to further ease their relegation fears.
Rochdale playmaker Aaron Morley claimed the vital assist in his side’s 1-0 win against Blackpool at Spotland. That’s three successive wins for ‘The Dale’ in their fight to maintain League One status.
Gethin Jones’ Bolton Wanderers got back to winning ways following their surprise loss at the weekend. ‘The Trotters’ beat Carlisle 1-0 as they maintain their position in the League Two automatic promotion places.
Also in the hunt for promotion to League One are Morecambe who fielded 18 year old Freddie Price for his first EFL start. They returned from Grimsby Town with the three points after a convincing 3-0 win.
Wednesday
Martin Boyle’s devastating form continued for Hibernian during their SPL game with Livingston at Easter Road. He provided an assist before winning and converting a penalty-kick during the 2-1 victory. The Socceroo will be playing European football next season now that they are certain to finish in the Scottish top flight’s top four.
Saturday
In the FA Women’s Super League; Faye Bryson scored with a fantastic strike from the edge of the 18 yard box for Bristol City. Her side clawed back a two goal deficit to grab a 2-2 draw at Chloe Arthur’s Aston Villa.
Harry Souttar’s Stoke City had to a settle for a share of the spoils against Nottingham Forest. The EFL Championship fixture finished 1-1 at The City Ground.
Olly Lee’s sweet strike doubled Gillingham’s lead over Northampton Town in League One. Two late goals earned the visitors a 2-2 draw at The Priestfield.
Elsewhere in the third tier; Elliot Lee featured for Oxford United in their 3-1 home victory over Plymouth Argyle. Also; there were 1-1 draws for Callum Lang’s Wigan Athletic and Aaron Morley’s Rochdale.
Bolton Wanderers came out on top at The Globe Arena against Morecambe in the League Two promotion chase. Gethin Jones’ side edged a tight fixture 1-0. Freddie Price entered the fray as a half-time substitute for ‘The Shrimps’ as he continues his rapid development.
Eastleigh beat Sutton United 1-0 with Ryan Hill on the winning side in the National League game.
Declan McManus calmly converted a 10th minute penalty-kick for Dunfermline. ‘The Parrs’ were 4-3 winners in a seven goal thriller against Arbroath in the Scottish Championship.
The evening fixture went all the way to a penalty shoot-out at Easter Road. With the scores tied at 2-2 following extra-time, Martin Boyle stepped up to bury his spot kick as Hibernian beat Motherwell 4-2 on penalties in their Scottish FA Cup Quarter-Final match.
Sunday
Manchester City loanee Luke Bolton made a late substitute appearance for Dundee United as they thumped Aberdeen 3-0 in the Scottish FA Cup Quarter-Final tie.
Lioness Ella Toone scored a brace and got an assist for Manchester United as they ran out 4-1 winners against Tottenham Hotspur in the FA Women’s Super League.
Also in the WSL; Georgia Brougham and Brooke Chaplen played out a 1-1 draw for their respective sides Birmingham City and Reading.
Taylor Hinds’ Liverpool came away from Sheffield United with a 1-0 win in the FA Women’s Championship.
North of the border; Rangers stormed to an 11-0 victory over fellow Scottish Women’s Premier League side Forfar Farmington. Lizzie Arnot helped herself to two goals during the rout. #FullNinetyFamily
