Monday 6th
Gethin Jones gave a great account of himself in front of the Sky Sports cameras. The Everton academy graduate starred for Bolton Wanderers in the League One game against Burton Albion. Despite his best efforts the Trotters had to settle for a goalless draw.
Tuesday 7th
Australia made history to make it ten international wins in succession as they beat Vietnam 1-0 in World Cup qualifying. Stoke City’s Harry Souttar completed 90 minutes while Hibernian’s Martin Boyle was rested.
Friday 10th
Martin Boyle’s scintillating form for Hibernian was recognised after he was named Cinch Premiership Player of the Month for August. Martin fired 4 goals in 4 games to lift his side up to second in the table.
Saturday 11th
Stoke City came from a goal behind to beat Huddersfield Town 2-1. Returning Socceroo Harry Souttar set a solid defensive platform as ‘The Potters’ climbed to third place in the EFL Championship.
There was a a seven goal thriller at Portman Road in League One where Bolton Wanderers beat Ipswich Town 5-2. Gethin Jones got in on the action by claiming an assist. Callum Lang set up Wigan Athletic’s winning goal as they secured a 2-1 win over Doncaster Rovers.
Elsewhere; Aaron Morley’s Rochdale beat Tranmere 1-0 while Declan McManus struck a late equaliser for TNS. Dan Pike made a winning start following his loan move to AFC Fylde. They beat Bradford Park Avenue 2-0 to maintain top spot in the National League North.
Sunday 12th
The big Edinburgh derby finished goalless after Hearts took on rivals Hibs at Tynecastle. Jambos’ new boy Barrie McKay made an impressive debut while Martin Boyle was unable to unlock a resolute defence for the visitors.
Ella Toone’s rifled finish from 20 yards opened the scoring for Manchester United as they beat Leicester City 3-1 in the FA Women’s Super League. Bethany England scored with her first touch after coming off the bench for Chelsea as they trounced Everton 4-0. Rangers Women scored 7 goals without reply against Hamilton on the first day of the SWPL season with Lizzie Arnot finding the net.
Monday 13th
Tyrese Campbell made his return to competitive football for Stoke City under 23’s away at Middlesbrough. Having spent 9 months recovering from a severe knee injury the forward looked impressive during a 60 minute run out without any adverse reaction. His return to first team football getting ever nearer.
Tuesday 14th
Freddie Price made his first start of the season for Morecambe in the Papa Johns Trophy against Everton under 23’s. Whilst the Shrimps dominated possession and created the better chances but lost the game 0-1.
Rotherham United faced Lincoln City away and came away with a hard earned point. Jamie Lindsay being a standout performer for the Millers.
Wednesday 15th
Stoke City hosted Barnsley in a Championship tie that they dominated, but were unable to convert numerous chances. The game ended 1-1 with Harry Souttar being named Stoke City Man of the Match. #FullNinetyFamily
