Ben Tollitt’s first half assist sent Morecambe on their way to a 2-1 win at Wigan in the EFL Trophy. Jamie Stott captained the victors, while Scott Smith completed 90 minutes for Athletic.

Former Manchester City academy graduate Ed Francis was on target for Exeter City in their 2-1 success against Swindon Town at St James Park. 

Thursday 

A Harry Souttar own goal capped off a miserable day for Australia in their FIFA World Cup qualifying match against Bahrain. Winger Martin Boyle also featured in the 1-0 loss on the Gold Coast. 

Dan Pike supplied an early assist for Dundalk in their League of Ireland match at Oriel Park. Visitors St Patrick’s Athletic fought back with Tom Grivosti’s brilliant overhead kick the highlight in a 2-1 win. 

Saturday

Barnsley debutant Davis Keillor-Dunn wasted no time in delivering for his new club. The 26 year old opened the scoring in the 11th minute as ‘The Tykes’ beat Bristol Rovers 2-1 at Oakwell. 

Wrexham’s march up the football pyramid continues unabated as they move into top spot in League One. That man Elliot Lee struck again in the comprehensive 3-0 win against local rivals Shrewsbury Town at the Racecourse Ground. 

In the National League; Jack Evans’ Halifax Town played out a goalless draw at Hartlepool, while Josh Lundstram completed 90 minutes in Oldham Atheltic’s 1-1 draw with Southend United at Boundary Park.

Also in England’s fifth tier; Dion Pereira was again influential for Dagenham & Redbridge in their 1-1 draw at Maidenhead United. 

Sunday

The 2024/25 Women’s Championship Season kicked off and didn’t disappoint; Martha Harris’ Birmingham City put five past Sunderland in an emphatic 5-0 win. Southampton drew 1-1 at home to a strong Bristol City side, with both Fran Stenson and Tara Bourne making their competitive debuts. London City Lionesses played out another 1-1 draw at Hayes Lane to newly promoted Newcastle United with Georgia Brougham a top performer on the day. #FullNinetyFamily
