Leicester continued their fight for Premier League survival at the King Power Stadium. Harry Souttar gave another great account of himself although City slipped to a 2-1 defeat against in-form Aston Villa.
Gateshead moved out of the National League relegation places after an excellent 4-0 home win against Yeovil Town. Ed Francis completed another convincing 90 minutes in the heart of midfield.
Thursday
England celebrated success again at Wembley Stadium. The European Champions faced the South American Champions in the inaugural Finalissima. Star forward Ella Toone opened the scoring for the hosts, but Brazil scored a late equaliser (1-1). The Lionesses came out on top (4-2) in the resulting penalty shootout to lift the trophy.
Hannah Cain scored her first international goal for Wales in the friendly match with home nations rivals Northern Ireland. Wales ran out 4-1 winners at the Cardiff City Stadium.
Good Friday
Jamie Lindsay lined up for Rotherham United in the EFL Championship. ‘The Millers’ came from behind to beat West Bromwich Albion 3-1 at the New York Stadium.
Stoke City were on the end of a 2-1 loss against Bristol City. Two late goals undid Tyrese Campbell’s good work in supplying a first half assist.
Callum Lang completed 90 minutes for Wigan Athletic but they went down to a narrow 2-1 defeat at Sheffield United.
Bolton Wanderers returned to League One action following last weekend’s celebrations at Wembley Stadium. Gethin Jones and Aaron Morley made the long trip to Exeter City and were rewarded with a 1-0 win in League One.
There were disappointing League defeats for Liam Kitching’s Barnsley, Luke Bolton’s Salford and Ronan Darcy’s Swindon.
Halifax stopped high flying Wrexham in the National League. Tylor Golden and Jamie Stott combined impressively at the back in the 3-1 win, while Elliot Lee was again on target for the visitors.
Gateshead continue to reap the benefits of Ed Francis’ loan signing. The North East side beat Scunthorpe United 2-0.
Michael Folivi returned to the Chelmsford City side after injury and scored a brace during the 3-2 home victory against Farnborough.
Saturday
A goal in each half for Declan McManus helped The New Saints to victory in the Welsh Premier League. They beat Penybont 5-2 with Nathan Wood netting for the hosts.
Easter Monday
Tyrese Campbell’s Stoke City earned themselves a point in the EFL Championship following their goalless draw at Birmingham City.
Also securing a draw were Rotherham United. Jamie Lindsay completed 90 minutes of action at Carrow Road in the 0-0 draw at Norwich City.
Wigan Athletic slipped to a 2-0 home defeat against visitors Swansea City with Callum Lang featuring for ‘The Latics’.
The race for League One promotion continues to hot up. Liam Kitching’s Barnsley beat Shrewsbury Town 2-1, while Aaron Morley and Gethin Jones took to the field in Bolton’s 1-1 draw with Cambridge.
Two goals in added time propelled Salford City to a 3-2 victory at Wimbledon. Luke Bolton’s men also missed an added time penalty!
David Norman Jr. made his full EFL debut for Northampton Town and was rewarded with a 2-1 win over visitors Gillingham.
Elliot Lee grabbed the headlines for Wrexham. He struck the winning goal in the top of the table clash with Notts County. The Welsh side top the National League table having reached an incredible 100 points.
Ed Francis starred again for Gateshead as they beat Altrincham 1-0 away from home.
Halifax continued their great form by winning 3-1 at York, with Tylor Golden and Jamie Stott having key defensive roles.
Jack Evans returned to the Hereford starting lineup after injury and celebrated an assist. Aaron Holloway also made a starting appearance in the 2-2 draw with Brackley Town.
Theo Sander’s Aalborg looked to continue their recent upturn in Superligaen form against Odense. They were beaten 2-3 despite a spirited comeback having trailed 0-2 at half time. #FullNinetyFamily
