Aaron Morley grabbed his opportunity with both hands in the Papa John’s Pizza Trophy. He hauled his Bolton side to a 2-2 draw despite trailing by two goals. Tranmere claimed the bonus point by winning the penalty shoot-out 5-4, although Aaron made no mistake with his spot-kick.

At the Peninsula Stadium Salford City collected the bonus point thanks to a shoot-out victory following a goalless draw with Accrington Stanley. Luke Bolton made a second half appearance to maintain his sharpness.

Wednesday

Congratulations to Crewe Alexandra’s Max Woodcock who made his Scotland U18 debut against Poland. The Scots competed in a friendly tournament in France.

Thursday

Australia faced southern hemisphere rivals New Zealand in a FIFA World Cup warm up match. Martin Boyle completed the 90 minutes during the 1-0 win in Brisbane.

Saturday

The days early WSL fixture saw a record crowd of over 47,000 watch Arsenal defeat Tottenham Hotspur 4-0.

Ronan Darcy scored his first goal for Swindon Town to secure a 2-1 win at Grimsby. Aribim Pepple made a late substitute appearance for the home side following his return from injury.

Two late goals for Luke Bolton’s Salford earned the three points in League Two. City came from behind to beat Sutton United 2-1.

Toby Mullarkey captained Altrincham to a 1-0 National League win at home to Aldershot.

Wrexham continue their March towards EFL football following their 6-0 demolition of Torquay United. Elliot Lee displayed his quality during a late cameo.

Ryan McLean scored again for Hereford in the National League North. They beat Blyth Spartans 3-0 at Edgar Street. That was Ryan’s second goal in the space of a week.

Sunday

Max Woodcock opened up his international account for Scotland U18’s in only his second start. The forward grabbed his sides second goal in a 4-1 victory over Estonia.

The FA Women’s Super League is back in full swing and Manchester United made it two wins from the opening two fixtures. Ella Toone’s team beat West Ham 2-0. Liverpool lost the Merseyside derby 0-2 in front of a Club record crowd.
